Portsmouth students are among the most satisfied in England with their university experience, according to the annual National Student Survey (NSS) published today (6 July).
The University of Portsmouth is ranked 39th of all universities in England for full time student satisfaction in the NSS.
Today’s results revealed 78% of all 2022 final year undergraduates were satisfied overall with their university experience. In comparison, the sector has risen from 75% last year to 76% this year: our students say they have a better experience at Portsmouth than their peers at most universities.
This independent and nationally recognised survey is an important measure that highlights our considerable strengths, with students particularly satisfied in areas such as teaching, academic support, learning resources and listening to students.
Professor Paul Hayes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor
Professor Paul Hayes, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, said: “Providing the very best for our students is core to everything we do. It has been a very challenging and difficult period for staff and students over the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the past few months have returned to some kind of normality which is reflected in today’s results.
“This independent and nationally recognised survey is an important measure that highlights our considerable strengths, with students particularly satisfied in areas such as teaching, academic support, learning resources and listening to students.
“I’d like to personally thank colleagues for the extraordinary efforts made over the past 12 months in particular to support our students in very difficult circumstances, which was clearly appreciated.”
In the NSS, 12 of the University's courses achieved satisfaction scores of 90% and above.
We’ve seen most students have been happy to return to campus and normal student life after the disruption caused by Covid, and it’s encouraging to see that a large majority are satisfied with their time as a Portsmouth student.
Natasha Layley, Welfare Officer at the University of Portsmouth Students’ Union
Natasha Layley, Welfare Officer at the University of Portsmouth Students’ Union, said: “We’d like to congratulate the University on their excellent NSS results. We’ve seen most students have been happy to return to campus and normal student life after the disruption caused by Covid-19, and it’s encouraging to see that a large majority are satisfied with their time as a Portsmouth student.
“We will continue to work closely with the University to provide the best student experience possible and ensure student voices are continued to be heard.”
This improvement in the NSS follows excellent Research Excellence Framework (REF) outcomes where we were ranked third of all modern UK universities for research power. In June, the Graduate Outcomes survey also showed an improvement in graduate employment with 94% of Portsmouth graduates in work and/or further study 15 months after they graduated compared to 89% last year.
