An updated statement in response to the ongoing Israel/Gaza conflict.
Professor Graham Galbraith, University of Portsmouth Vice-Chancellor, said: “The University condemns violence and loss of life on all sides in Gaza and Israel, which is a tragedy. We are today adding our voice to international humanitarian calls for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations towards a lasting peace in the region.
“We share the widespread concern for academics in the region who need support, and we will look at how we can best provide our assistance through our membership of the Council for At Risk Academics.
“It is also important to restate our concern and care for all of our students and staff and those in our community impacted by the violence and loss of life associated with this conflict. Our overriding priority remains providing a sanctuary for all of our students and staff, where we care for their wellbeing, and provide a safe and welcoming place where we can fulfil our mission of creating, sharing, and applying knowledge to make a difference to individuals and society.”
