LLB Law | University of Portsmouth
The first time I came to Portsmouth was for an open day with my friends, it just felt like the place that I should be in, it had a really nice vibe to it.
I've always had an interest in law and I think it was always something I wanted to explore, since attending Portsmouth University it's definitely reaffirmed that passion for it.
The LLB Law Honours degree has a number of core modules that you are required to study, particularly if you would like to become a solicitor or a barrister in the future.
This is our main law degree that has the most opportunity in terms of legal options.
It's the one where you can experience lots of different ideas and opportunities in law.
You aren't just learning an abstract concept from a dusty book off a shelf that hasn't moved in 20 years.
It's real, it's important and it matters.
I've enjoyed all the modules, I think as a first year student, it offers a really good wide spread of modules and subjects you can study.
All of the lecturers are so inspiring, if we ask them a question they have got the right knowledge and experience to describe it to you, not just in theory but focused more on practice.
Lots of practical based activities that we offer here.
We have a unique resource at the University being our Mock Courtroom.
We get to practice different aspects, we get to practice interviewing, get to wear a wig and a gown and have great fun in front of your fellow peers.
We also have our Legal Advice Clinic and this is a real life clinic, so our students are real legal advisors dealing with real clients with real issues.
Lots of students that leave our LLB Law courses having undertaken those practical skills are that bit further, that step ahead because you've got that background,
you've that confidence and it's now for you to flourish, to move on and to develop within your career.
The academic support is amazing, the advice you receive from your lecturers, it feels personal, they're very supportive and they want you to do your best.
Supporting with things like CV writing, covering letter writing, there's things that really will help when I do apply for placements or jobs in the future.
In terms of career opportunities, I would say the world really is your oyster.
This is a degree that will open up lots of opportunities for you.
It is a degree that you can develop into law, but also one that you've got skills that can transfer into a number of different areas.
It gives me more variety of different job opportunities.
I think Portsmouth is fantastic, I think it's diverse, culturally it has so many dimensions to it.
We have a wonderful campus here, lots and lots of resources, lots of facilities.
We are so close to the sea.
I think the university is in a great location, Portsmouth itself is a great city and I think overall it's just an amazing choice.
Come without even having a second thought because it's brilliant and their experience will remain unforgettable.
