Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer in Film & Media Studies having joined the University of Portsmouth in 2019. I have a PhD in Film Studies from King's College London, and a degree in History & Culture from the University of Warwick.

My research examines the history and theory of fantasy film and television, a subject I have published on widely in a variety of academic journals and edited collections. My research has been twice nominated by the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies (BAFTSS), first for my co-edited collection Fantasy/Animation: Connections between Media, Mediums and Genres (Routledge, 2018 – nominated for ‘Best Collection’) and, more recently, for Encountering the Impossible: The Fantastic in Hollywood Fantasy Cinema (SUNY Press, 2021 – nominated for ‘Best First Monograph’). I am also the co-founder of fantasy-animation.org and co-host of the Fantasy/Animation podcast.
