Dr Asrul Ismail

Summary

I am a Senior Research Associate in Operational Research at School of Mathematics and Physics, University of Portsmouth. My research interests include optimisation, metheuristics, artificial intelligence (machine learning), computer simulation, and project management. My research involves the development and application of metaheuristic, heuristic, and machine learning algorithms for autonomous system, manufacturing, logistics, and renewable energy.

The University of Birmingham granted me a PhD in 2021. I received my master's and bachelor's degrees in Industrial Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology and Gadjah Mada University, respectively, in 2009 and 2004. And began my academic career in 2005 by becoming a Teaching Assistant at Universitas Pancasila and Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. I began working with the University of Portsmouth on the UKRI project DR-SUIT in February 2022 to create UAV-USV routing and scheduling for offshore windfarms inspection. At the moment, I am involved in the European projects "Arctic Security and Emergency Preparedness Network" (ARC SAR) and "Artificial Intelligence Based Virtual Control Room for the Arctic" (AI-ARC), funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Framework Programme.
