Biography

Judy Harrison is a photographic artist, writer, curator and lecturer who has published and exhibited nationally. Her work is held in collections including the V & A, London and West Midlands Arts. She was Founder and Director of Mount Pleasant Photography Workshop, Southampton, one of the leading community photography organisations, from 1977 - 1992. She was a leading member of Format Womens Picture Agency, London from 1884 - 2003 and has been a contributing member of Photofusion Picture Library, London since 2003. Her documentary and editorial photography have been published extensiveley, both nationally and world wide. 

Research interests

Her research interests explore the notions of cultural, social and political representations within photography. Cultural diversity, diasporic and migratory narratives, personal stories and histories through the use of image and text are common themes throughout her work. She has years of experience of working collaboratively and creatively on projects with both individuals and groups of people from a wide diversity of backgrounds. She is interested not only in the resulting work but also in the process that this can take and the impact and empowering nature that these collaborations can have on people's lives.
