Summary

Currently a Teaching Fellow at University of Portsmouth.  I started work as an engineering apprentice developing skills in the use and application of automation in the postal industry.  My interests and subsequent career lead me to work as a technician and later in engineering and operational management.  As a relative late comer to Higher Education I mostly teach strategic management and enterprise units.  I find these subjects appealing because they are integrative and I can usefully contribute from practitioner experience.

Biography

From 2014 until present I have worked for University of Portsmouth.

Prior to this I worked for a short period with Solent Creatives.  This was a Knowledge Transfer project initiated by Solent University where students contribute much needed resource to the local business community.

2007 until 2013 I worked as a Senior Lecturer at Solent University teaching on a range of programs.  During this period I also studied for and completd my MPhil., in Strategic Management.  Subsequently I was included on 2 PhD supervisory teams.  To formalise my Teaching in HE accreditation I achieved Fellowship of the HEA in 2010.

My earlier career was spent with Royal Mail gaining a diverse range of experience from basic engineering skills to an appreciation of the firm at a more strategic level.   During this time I studied and gained an MBA.

Research interests

My teaching responsibilities require that I work each year with a number of local businesses - these are generally SME`s where we bring togther students and local business in joint projects.  This proximity to local firms continually informs both my teaching and research interests.
