Professor James McCalman
I am interested in how the notions of Leadership, Culture, Change and Compliance intersect in terms of the regulation of firms in the banking and financial sector.
Of late, my research and publications have concerned how Banks need to re-interpret notions of compliance behaviour imposed upon them by regulatory bodies towards ideas of leadership and cultural change from within. This is done in collaboration with colleagues in Australia and Hong Kong.
James joined Portsmouth in 2013 from Windsor Leadership Trust. He is a senior academic with executive and leadership experience in the private, charity and higher education sectors. He has driven several change/transformation projects and gained wide experience of management and postgraduate teaching in the UK, Europe, Southeast Asia and the United States.
My main research interests are:
Leadership, Culture, Change and Compliance in terms of the regulation of firms in the Banking and Financial sectors.
Leadership challenges and the politics of change.
- Leading large-scale organizational change.
- Leadership development and coaching.
My teaching at Portsmouth centres around Strategic Leadership and Change at the MBA level and I am heavily involved in Executive Education programmes and senior leadership development.
I am happy to take calls and emails from media on areas related to Leadership and Change and my research and teaching areas and am aware of the need to respond to journalists in a timely manner. These should be directed to me: firstname.lastname@example.org
