Here is all the information you need for planning your journey to the University of Portsmouth for your Applicant Experience Day.

You might notice that you only have one ticket, even if you booked to bring additional guests with you. We only need your booking confirmation to be able to check in you in, your guests do not need a ticket.

Checking in

Main check-in is located in the Students' Union on Cambridge Road (PO1 2EF) and is open between 9.30am–3.00pm. You can also check in at some of the buildings where course sessions are held, around 30 min before your course session starts: Eldon, Park, Portland, Richmond and St Michael's Buildings.

At check-in, you’ll get a programme with all the information you need to make the most of your day. And we’ll point you to where you need to go first. You'll also find out how to claim your complimentary lunch for you and your guests.

Park and ride

Portsmouth has a fantastic Park and Ride service to save you the hassle of finding parking in the city. It costs just £4 for the day. You’ll find it off the M275 at the entrance to the city.

Buses depart every 4 minutes during peak times and every 7 minutes during off-peak times and will drop you off just outside the Students’ Union on Cambridge Road. Look out for our friendly student ambassadors (dressed in purple) who will help.

Please allow around 20 minutes from parking to arrival on campus.

Trains

The closest station is Portsmouth and Southsea. It’s only a 10-minute walk from the Students' Union and close to all buildings on campus.

Hover

We have linked up with Hovertravel to offer you some discount codes for the applicant experience day. If you know other people visiting on the same day as you it might be worth teaming up to get the group discount.

Car parking

To get to the University, take the M275 into Portsmouth (signed 'Portsmouth West'), whether approaching from the east (A3(M)/A27) or the west (M27 Junction 12). Ignore the M27/A27 junctions signed to Southsea and Hilsea.

If you're travelling from further afield or want to make a city break out of it, you might want to stay in a hotel before or after the Applicant Experience Day.

There are a number of different hotels close to the University. You could stay in the City Centre close to the action, in Southsea to explore more of the area, nearer the seafront for some tranquillity or in Portsmouth's outlet shopping centre Gunwarf Quays.

You can find hotels in Portsmouth online and book them using their individual websites. Unfortunately, we don't currently offer any discounts with local hotels for our visit days.
