Explore Engineering Projects from our students
Every year, hundreds of engineering students showcase their final year projects as part of our annual Engineering Project Day.
With the aim to build links with industry, the public and schools and colleges, our final year students will provide demonstrations of their exciting research covering everything from braille devices to upgraded tattoo machines.
Invite your student to explore how engineering courses can bridge academic studies and professional life as they'll be inspired by the possibilities that technology can produce.
Explore projects from our School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering including:
- Electronic Engineering
- Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Product and Industrial Design
- Renewable Energy Engineering
Book your place now to give your students an insight into the exciting projects that they could one day be part of with a degree in engineering.
You can select to join us for morning sessions (9.15am - 1.15pm), afternoon sessions (12.15pm - 3.15pm) or the full day (9.15am - 3.15pm).

Engineering Project Day 2025
Curious about the amazing projects our final year students?
2025's Engineering Project Day saw students from two of our schools showcase their final year projects to their lecturers and members of the industry.

So the Engineering Project Day here at the University of Portsmouth is an opportunity for all of our final year students to
0:09
present the findings and work they've been carrying out on their final year projects.
0:14
You know, where you've really worked hard and you can now present it to the public, to your peers, to your lecturers, it's really a great day.

My project is a Smart Canopy, which is an automated rain cover for your washing.
0:26
I've basically created a graphical visualizer for audio, so what you hear is what you see on screen.
0:33
My project is analysing electrical steel.
0:36
A flexible rear wing on a Formula One car.
0:38
People be making like video games that you can play.
0:41
I've just had a very interesting conversation with a student who is proposing a solar array set up on the moon so that we can then beam energy back to Earth.
0:49
The person stood next to me, they're doing a suitcase which is collapsible, which is really cool.
0:54
The main benefits are they get to outline it in a professional context.
0:58
It's a really good opportunity to practice their presentation skills, whether that be for interviews down the line or for when they're working in industry later on.
1:04
There's people in there who are offering graduate roles.
1:07
One of my friends, they've asked him to come to the company and show his presentation.
1:12
And hopefully as well that I can inspire some second year students and first year students and show them what they might have to look forward to.
1:17
It definitely does impact real life industry because this research does forward the things that we're looking at.
1:23
Things that you could definitely see impacting the world in a positive way.
1:27
People making things for disabilities.
1:28
Renewable energy generation.
1:31
And as an engineer, it allows you to gain a deeper understanding for different processes and how people are looking at different problems.

Check-in from 9.15am at Portland Building, Portland Street, PO1 3AH
We'll introduce your students to what they can expect from their day, including a teaser of some of the demonstrations, subject areas and kind of questions they can ask our final years.
We'll take students to our Anglesea building to explore the presentations and projects that we have on offer. Some of the previous work includes:
- Walking aid for stroke survivors
- A music reader
- Wind tunnel testing
Refuel, ready for more demos and sessions in the afternoon
Your students will get to explore the different types of Engineering on offer at University, giving them the skills and knowledge to be a valuable asset to a huge range of employers.
They'll also learn about the value of taking a placement year and get a chance to ask our students about their studies, experiences and life at University.
We'll take students to our Anglesea building to explore the presentations and projects that we have on offer. Some of the previous work includes:
- An innovative dog vest
- A sudoku solver
- Robotic arms
* Demos will run until 4.00pm if you or your students would prefer to stay longer.
