You’ve got your place with us through Clearing - what are the next steps?
Congratulations! You've been through Clearing and secured your place at the University of Portsmouth. We’re excited to welcome you.
Right now you might be wondering ‘what happens now?’. Don't worry, we've got you covered with this quick guide on your next steps.
Confirm your place
First things first, make sure you've officially accepted your offer through the UCAS Hub to lock your spot at Portsmouth. It might take up to 48 hours for you to be confirmed, accepted, and validated in your UCAS Hub, so please don't panic if it doesn’t show straight away.
Sort out your finances
Now's the time to get your student finance in order. If you haven't already, apply for student loans and any grants you might be eligible for. Update your application with your new course details.
Find your home away from home
Start looking into accommodation options. We have various halls of residence on offer, but spaces fill up fast. Once you've accepted your Clearing course offer, we'll be in touch with details of available accommodation in the area. This will include our latest hall availability and support to find local rented accommodation.
Become a Portsmouth student
Register at the university. If you’re a UK national, bring your passport or a UK driving licence to sign up to your course. If you’re an international student you’ll need your passport and valid Visa or Biometric Residence Permit. Online registration is available from the 21st August onwards for all confirmed students. You’ll receive an email from our Registration team closer to the time giving you instructions about next steps.
Join the Portsmouth community
Look for our social media groups for new students. These are a great way to connect with other students and make friends.
Prepare for your course
Get ahead by checking out your course details online. Hear about the experiences of our past and current students who studied your course - you might pick up some study tips.
Attend Induction Week events
Keep an eye out for information about Freshers' week and induction events. These are crucial for meeting people and settling into university life.
Pack smart
Start thinking about what to bring. Essentials like bedding, kitchenware, and study materials are a must. Don't forget some home comforts to make your new space feel like home.
Stay healthy
Register with a local GP as soon as you can. Your health should be a priority, especially when you're away from home.
Remember, everyone's in the same boat. It's normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves. We have support services available if you need them, so don't hesitate to reach out.
