The range of practical skills and experience Chibuzor gained means he feels ready to be part of major projects worldwide.
After working as a construction site engineer and in structural engineering design, I wanted to earn an advanced civil engineering qualification from an internationally recognised institution, so that I can work anywhere in the world.
The University of Portsmouth had great recommendations from friends – and it also offers a fully accredited Master’s in Civil Engineering. It aligns with my BEng Civil Engineering qualification and my future career plans.
My goals is to be confident in my knowledge as a civil engineer and be part of top infrastructure projects in different parts of the world.
Gaining skills through a practical project
At Portsmouth, I have had access to the best civil engineering software and reading materials, to allow me to grow into my field. The teaching has also been great and I have gotten advanced knowledge on this course.
One of the modules features a group design assignment, which I believe is unique to this course.

It helped us to simulate real-life situations, to experience what it is like to work with other professionals on a project.
Getting ready to work with a top company
I have gained proficiency in the field of civil engineering on this course. In particular, I have learned the importance of teamwork and coordination in project management. I have learned how to establish clear goals deliverables at work or on assignments. I have also learned how to carry out civil engineering designs and calculations with advanced software.
Next, I hope to get a job with a top engineering company and grow my experience in the field.
