Global Buddies - Students only

The UK-Australia Season is an exciting initiative led by the British Council and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs. It brings together dynamic groups of people from across the arts and higher education sectors, like yourself, to explore and champion the relationship between the two countries.

Edith Cowan University (ECU), Perth, Western Australia and the University of Portsmouth work closely together to deliver a number of dual degrees and are just two of only a handful of universities invited to participate.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, will be to exchange information with 1 of the other 7.874 billion human occupants of Earth. These have been challenging times and so the Global Buddy (students studying at ECU and UoP) you will be paired with could be addressing situations you know nothing about.

On Monday 7 March, you will be sent details about how you can contact your anonymous Global Buddy. Between you, you will agree on how you will exchange information such as messages, pictures and audio & visual recordings, without giving away your identity and report this to Mission Controller – you will be given details about how you can do this.

You will then be sent simple daily tasks for the 5 days between Monday 7 and Friday 11 March. You will exchange with your buddy only. The purpose of this challenge is to gain unique insight into each other’s worlds and maybe how they differ or seem the same.

Register here.

How is technology changing the world?

To celebrate Global Week 2022, the Faculty of Technology has organised a social media event to encourage thought and ideas on how technology is changing the world.

We encourage you to participate in this week-long event via Instagram to share and post your ideas, and be in with a chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher!

This event is available for all students, staff and the public whether you are in the UK or overseas.

Instructions on how to participate can be found on our event site. You need to have an Instagram account and be following @uoptech to take part.
