A University of Portsmouth nursing student has recorded a song in praise of the NHS.

Uty Pius, who is in the final year of her BN (Hons) Adult Nursing course, recorded ‘Thank You NHS’ in support of the amazing NHS staff who are working tirelessly in the effort against coronavirus.

Uty, a wife and mum of three who lives in Southampton, currently works shifts at Southampton General Hospital while she completes her studies. She said: “I got inspiration to write the song in March, watching how the pandemic was ravaging the world. I see the passion and courage of every NHS staff member to support and save lives. I worked in the ward three weeks ago and all I could feel is the hope for ‘light at the end of the tunnel’, which hastened my writing to encourage everyone to say thank you to the NHS for the great job they are doing.

“Luckily, my producer, King Baseda, was available to produce and master the song and I sent the audio to a videographer who put the clips together for me.”

This is not the first song that Uty has written and produced. She wrote a song called ‘Beautiful City’ for the city of Southampton, which was launched by the Mayor of Southampton in October 2019.

Uty, who is British and originally from Nigeria, is a recorded gospel artist. She said: “I started singing at a young age in Nigeria in the church choir. I have my gospel band (One Voice) and I serve in my local church, Victory Gospel Church in Southampton, where I also organise a free gospel concert to bring my community together through singing. Singing is a passion and a gift to me and I love doing it regardless of how busy I might be.”
