The successful Portsmouth FC scholarship – one of the flagship activations in the partnership between Portsmouth FC and the University – has been recognised with a nomination in this year’s EFL Awards.

League One side Pompey has been shortlisted for the EFL Innovation Award alongside Championship clubs Millwall and Norwich City.

The undergraduate scheme grants £3,000 worth of funding for each year of a three-year degree course to support tuition fees and is designed to assist local young people in their higher education studies.

Meanwhile, popular matchday steward Abdul Khalique – who is always on hand with a smile and friendly greeting behind the Fratton End – has been shortlisted for the Club Employee prize.

Abdul has been nominated alongside Burton’s John Clarke and Bristol City’s Jerry Tocknell.

This year’s star-studded EFL Awards are being held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane on Sunday, 23 April.
