Ayse Evans, a Drama and Performance student from the University of Portsmouth, has been selected by a national theatre company to develop her new play.

Ayse submitted her play ‘Squirrels’ to the London-based Mrs C’s Collective, an organisation comprised of renowned theatre artists. They selected her play for their annual competition, The Writers Collective, which is a 12-month programme which supports, develops and nurtures new emerging voices.

I wanted to shout out to my lecturers Kit Danowski and Vin Adams. They were both really supportive in giving advice and proof reading throughout.

As part of the Writers Collective, Ayse will work with fellow emerging writers in monthly workshops aimed at developing her writing skills, work with directors, give rehearsed readings, and take part in guest speaker events and feedback sessions.

The story ‘Squirrels’ is a dramatic comedy centred on a teenage boy with an obsession for squirrels and Claudia Winkleman and how he tries to navigate a world he struggles to fit into.
