University of Portsmouth Television and Broadcast students have staged a live broadcast for staff with a professional director leading the way.

The students experienced the drama and excitement of real-world work when they broadcast the Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Galbraith’s address to the university.

Some staff were able to attend the event in person, but most watched the presentation and panel discussion via a live feed.

Evan Pugh, Portsmouth lecturer and director on television shows Love Island and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here oversaw the broadcast. He was able to give expert guidance on producing a multi-camera live broadcast.

Evan said he was delighted at the students’ abilities, the technology and the facilities.

The University of Portsmouth, its staff, students and facilities replicate industry, and nobody shies away from operating at the highest level.

He said: “The University of Portsmouth, its staff, students and facilities replicate industry, and nobody shies away from operating at the highest level.

“The students worked tirelessly all afternoon and performed like seasoned professionals.

“I’ve also got to hand it to specialist technician Michael Parsons for technically worrying about the whole set-up, which allowed me to focus on working with the students on the front end of the delivery.

“We’re also pleased that at Portsmouth, our television productions have tackled gender inequality in the industry and we are happy to see many more women taking up roles behind the camera.”
