The University of Portsmouth has earned business accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in recognition of the outstanding quality of its business and management education.

Founded in 1916, AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools, and the largest business education network connecting learners, educators, and businesses worldwide.

Through its business accreditation, the AACSB recognises institutions that meet the highest international standards of excellence in business education. It also encourages continuous improvement, leading to a better student experience through enhanced courses, academic staff qualifications and engagement, and educational resources.

Achieving AACSB accreditation is a significant milestone for the Faculty of Business and Law. It underscores our dedication to providing the highest quality education and confirms our status as a leading institution for business education. This recognition is a direct result of our collective effort to create an environment that fosters academic excellence, innovation, and a global perspective.

This recognition validates Portsmouth’s place among the world’s best business schools and provides assurance of the quality of its business and management education and research. This is particularly important for prospective students and making graduates more attractive to potential employers.

Dr Dominic Page, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Portsmouth, said: “Achieving AACSB accreditation is a significant milestone for the Faculty of Business and Law. It underscores our dedication to providing the highest quality education and confirms our status as a leading institution for business education. This recognition is a direct result of our collective effort to create an environment that fosters academic excellence, innovation, and a global perspective.

“We are immensely proud of this achievement and it is testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, faculty, and students. We are excited about the opportunities it presents for our current and future students, faculty, and the broader business communities.”

Claire Sparrow, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law, added: “This accreditation reflects our mission to undertake world-leading, impactful research and developing the entrepreneurial spirit in our students, needed to address real world problems with confidence, integrity and social responsibility.

“We already have a strong record of success in delivering exceptional outcomes for our students and the AACSB accreditation formally recognises this, while allowing us to strengthen our expanding international networks.

“I would like to thank the whole business school community that has contributed to this success - students, colleagues and our industry partners.  We have benefited tremendously from the constructive discussions with the AACSB, particularly our accreditation panel.”

The University of Portsmouth’s commitment to earning accreditation is a true reflection of their dedication—not only to their students, alumni network, and greater business community, but to the higher education industry as a whole. Today’s students are tomorrow’s business leaders, and the addition of the University of Portsmouth to the network of AACSB-accredited business schools will have a lasting positive impact for their institution, both locally and globally.

Stephanie M. Bryant, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB, said: “AACSB accreditation recognises institutions that have demonstrated a focus on excellence in all areas, including teaching, research, curriculum development, and student learning.

“We congratulate the University of Portsmouth and Dean Dominic Page on earning accreditation and applaud the entire team—including the administration, faculty, staff, and students—for their roles in earning this respected honour.”

To receive the accreditation, the University’s Faculty of Business and Law successfully underwent a rigorous review process.  This was conducted by peers in the business education community, ensuring that they have the resources, credentials, and commitment needed to provide students with a first-rate, future-focused business education.

I would like to thank the whole business school community that has contributed to this success - students, colleagues and our industry partners.  We have benefited tremendously from the constructive discussions with the AACSB, particularly our accreditation panel.

Bryant added: “The University of Portsmouth’s commitment to earning accreditation is a true reflection of their dedication—not only to their students, alumni network, and greater business community, but to the higher education industry as a whole. AACSB accreditation inspires new ways of thinking within business education globally. As a result, less than six per cent of the world's schools offering business degree programs hold AACSB business accreditation.

A total of 1,013 institutions across 60 countries and territories have now earned AACSB accreditation in business, with currently only around 30 UK universities. Furthermore, 194 institutions maintain supplemental AACSB accreditation for their accounting programs.
