The University of Portsmouth is set to begin construction of a new multi-storey car park at the Eldon Building, Middle Street, marking a key milestone in the University’s Estate Masterplan.

The project will see the replacement of the existing surface-level Eldon car park with a modern, five-storey centralised car parking facility providing over 200 parking spaces. Construction is about to begin and will be completed in summer 2027

Supporting a modern, connected campus

The new mobility hub is an essential part of the University’s ambitious Estates Masterplan, a long-term programme of investment designed to modernise the campus and support future growth. The development will replace parking capacity lost through other major projects across the campus.

Once complete, the car park will be open to the public during evenings and weekends, and will include EV charging stations and solar panels on the roof of the facility.

During construction, the University will work closely with contractors to minimise disruption to students, staff, residents and visitors. Pedestrian routes and nearby roads are expected to remain open throughout the build, with any temporary restrictions carefully managed.

The new car park will complement the Cycle Hub, which has also recently started construction. The new facility, which will be available for staff and students, will host over 300 new cycle spaces, encouraging more active and sustainable travel to campus.
