As well as gaining plenty of skills and experience at Portsmouth, Veronika also supercharged her confidence.
I thought having a Master's would be that little something extra I can get to be more attractive to potential employers.
I knew from studying my undergraduate degree at Portsmouth that it was a good University, so I didn’t have any doubts I would like it.
I chose my Master’s to be as practical as possible. That’s something not too many courses offer.

Originally, I chose Portsmouth as a city based on Google photos! Being a city campus by the sea, it was a clear choice for me when coming to the UK.
It was definitely the right choice. Anytime I had an issue or did not know what I should do next, I could speak to someone from the University.
Whether speaking to a legal advice clinic to help me resolve issues with a landlord or just having coffee and monthly check-in with my tutor, I believe all these conversations really helped me become who I am now.
Learning that it’s okay not to know the answer and that you should just ask if you don’t understand something was a big lesson for me personally. At Portsmouth, I learned that no matter how difficult something seems now, you can do it.
Making the most of every moment
Since I am Portsmouth alumna, I got a discount on my tuition fees. The rest I am funding from a government loan.
I work three days in a week. After work, I take a walk on my beloved seaside, play squash or go and watch a show.
On days where I don’t have to work, I focus on doing parts of any assessment that is due or independent learning.
Having an accredited module gives me plenty of opportunities to take on various learning courses and improve my skills – recently, I finally got the hang of Excel!
If I could change one thing about my studies in Portsmouth it would be trying as many activities as possible. I still regret not joining the tandem society!
Gaining skills, experience and confidence
I have achieved so much studying at Portsmouth. In these four years, I’ve learned principles of marketing and applied them in practice while helping small businesses with their marketing.
I’ve learned to develop strong problem-solving skills as well as quickly adapt to any situation. I have organised international conferences, and was part of university-wide events.

I do not think I would be able to do any of this without coming to Portsmouth. Studying here gave me confidence to get what I want.
The next steps for me are to pursue a career in events management. Who knows, perhaps in the next five years you will see me coordinating a big music festival.
