At high school in France, I studied cinema, but after I graduated I wasn’t sure about the opportunities in the entertainment industry, so my parents encouraged me to attend Law School instead. I completed a 5-year law degree and knew quite soon into the degree that it wasn’t what I wanted to do.

I learned a lot but struggled to stay motived every year. After graduating law school, I took a sabbatical year to think about what I wanted to do next. During that year, I worked at a Canadian ranch and a riding centre in Ireland. Those experiences abroad helped me to find myself and decide what I wanted to do with my life. Since I was young, I learned English by watching films and TV shows; cinema always has been my passion, so I decided to move to England to study a Film Industries degree at the University of Portsmouth.

It wasn’t an easy decision to go back to university at 25. Being a mature student, I felt like I was behind on things, like having a job and a stable life. It also wasn’t easy to be studying in a different country as I missed my family, but I felt proud to be studying abroad and it was always great to go back home. Because I was finally studying a course I appreciated, I relished the opportunity to take on extracurricular activities like becoming a course rep and working with the University in organising events. With the support from all my lecturers, I was able to balance these activities as well as a degree I felt truly passionate about.

Currently, I’m completing applications for jobs in the entertainment industry. I’d love to find a job where I’d be able to work for better representation and diversity in the industry. I am quite interested in working for marketing or events too. With this in mind, I’ve been working at a film festival in my hometown for the past two summers and I really enjoyed it, so I would love to participate in a large events organisation such as this. However, I ‘d like to stay and work in the UK if possible due to the great experience at the University.
