At the Creative & Digital Tech Taster Day, you'll:

  • Fully immerse yourself in our studios and labs to see different Creative and Digital Technologies in action
  • Pick to get involved in 3 different sessions, from things like Immersive Extended Reality, Mobile Apps, Virtual Reality, Game Design and Game Sounds
  • Discover career pathways, industries and job roles waiting for you with a Creative and Digital Technologies degree
  • Use all of your creative skills in the Centre for Creative and Immersive Extended Reality (CCIXR) – the UK’s first integrated facility to support innovation in the creative and digital technologies of virtual, augmented and extended realities
  • Find out about transferable skills you’ll develop during your studies that will make you highly employable
  • Chat to current students about life as a student at Portsmouth and the different creative courses they study
  • Gain useful experience that you can talk about on your UCAS personal statement, showing your passion Creative and Digital Technologies

Taster Day location

Check in opens at 9.15am at Eldon Building, Southsea, Portsmouth, PO5 4BG. Look out for our students in purple T-shirts who'll help direct you.

Join Dr Adrian Hull to explore the different areas of academic learning that come together through subjects that are both artistic and technical. He’ll show you how they join together in the future-facing and culturally powerful area that is Creative Technology.

Immersive Extended Reality (CCIXR)

With the new launch of our £5 million Virtual Reality Centre, come explore high-tech digital tools used by video game developers and movie makers to create top-quality virtual content.

Mobile Applications

Use human experience design techniques to write a small Android app that you can take home on your phone.

Virtual and Augmented Reality

Work in pairs 'strap each-other in' to a biosensing system that detects heart rate and sweat production, which you’ll then use to modify a VR experience.

Game Design

Make a video game! Work with ‘Unreal Engine 4’ to fix certain aspects of a video game.

Game Sound

Sound is used to help tell a story and set a mood in Games. In this session, we'll add sound to a live First Person Shooter game to enhance immersion and gameplay.

The floor is yours. Ask our students questions about different creative subjects, any of the sessions you've experienced, studying at Portsmouth, moving away from home – and/or whatever you want to know about uni.
