In this blog post, I’ll present 4 fun alternative destinations to help with your uni-life balance as a student in Portsmouth.

Starting university comes with its own highs, one of which might be the eagerness to explore a new city, especially for international students. Some people might want to explore the bars and clubs, perhaps, to unwind after a long week. While this is a popular choice, it is not the only one.

Bowling alley

One of my favourite destinations for a good night out is to go to the bowling alley in Gunwharf Quays, Hollywood Bowl. Gunwharf is one of the places in Portsmouth that you can’t miss. At the bowling alley you can order food and drink – from beers to mocktails. It also has a discount on bowling games for students.

Cinema

If you're looking for something cosier, I'd recommend a night out at the Vue Cinema in Gunwharf Quays. You can get a discount on certain days with your student card. Awesome, right? You can also catch a showing at the Southsea Cinema and Arts Centre on Palmerston Road or at No.6 Cinema in the Historic Dockyard.

Sporting activities

For a fun and relaxing end to the week, I’d suggest participating in sporting activities in Ravelin Sports Centre. A one-stop facility where you can enjoy team sports such as football, volleyball netball, go to the gym or check out the 25m swimming pool. It’s also a great place to make new friends or chill out with a coffee.

Restaurant and dining

Portsmouth is full of great places to eat – including the local fish and chips shop, continental dining and lots more. So you'll find something to satisfy your appetite. If you haven't tried the all you can eat buffet at the Spoon World Buffet and Bar in the city centre - you must give it a go!
