The students' work appeared on 'The Final Straw Solent' social media channels
A new project by 2nd Year Marketing students aims to raise awareness for cigarette littering.
They collaborated with The Final Straw Solent, based on Hayling Island, whose goal is working with local communities and businesses in the South to minimise the amount of plastic entering our local seas and wider oceans.
The aim is to make people think more carefully about how they dispose of their cigarettes through short Instagram videos. The Final Straw featured videos by students with the highest marks on their official Instagram stories.
Working alongside such a worthwhile external organisation has given the students new dimensions that add to their knowledge and work experience.
Bianca Carr, founder of Final Straw Solent said: “I have looked through all of the students work and they have worked really hard. It shows how much thought has gone into the piece.”
Tracey McCulloch, Marketing lecturer at the University of Portsmouth said: “This project has allowed the Digital marketing business students to utilise those digital skills to support Final Straw Solent to increase awareness of cigarette littering. Working alongside such a worthwhile external organisation has given the students new dimensions that add to their knowledge and work experience.”
