Emergency food parcels for isolating students
Staff from the University of Portsmouth have been supplying emergency food parcels to self-isolating students in University and private halls of residence, as well as students in need living in the private sector.
This initiative, organised by the University’s Estates and Campus Services team, has donated around 80 food parcels to students who do not have family or friends nearby.
The food parcels, which have enough food for seven days, are made up of University catering supplies including tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, soup, pasta, fruit and porridge plus donations from staff of non-perishable goods and treats such as chocolate. Each parcel also included a note that detailed allergy information and wellbeing support.
Fiona Bell, Director of Estates and Campus Services, said: “Due to difficulties in accessing online shopping solutions, we wanted to ensure students living in Portsmouth were being supported during this difficult time. The response and donations from our staff at the University has been quite overwhelming and enabled us to make this happen.”
The donations were made by University staff.
