Whether it’s Game of Thrones, Harry Potter or the new Soul movie, fantasy television and film can capture the imagination and give viewers exciting escapism. Film historian Dr Alexander Sergeant - an expert on the history and theory of fantasy cinema - shares his thoughts on all things fantasy in this 20-minute podcast.  

Dr Sergeant is a lecturer in film and media studies at the University of Portsmouth. He co-founded the website fantasy-animation.org and is the co-host of his own regular podcast, which explores the relationship between fantasy cinema and the medium of animation.

In this podcast he discusses how Covid-19 has affected the film industry, his all-time favourite film The Wizard of Oz, as well as other fantasy classics such as Pan’s Labyrinth, the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy and Studio Ghibli films.
