Dr Sarah Fouch, Senior Lecturer in Microbiology at the University of Portsmouth, is helping with the fight against COVID-19 by working weekends at her local hospital.

The microbiologist is testing COVID-19 samples in the microbiology laboratory at Basingstoke Hospital, helping to get essential diagnostic  information to doctors and medical staff.

I’m really pleased to be doing my bit to help fight this virus.

Sarah has maintained her Biomedical Scientists HCPC registration. This means she was able to step right in when asked to join the testing team at the lab when the number of tests required started to grow a few weeks ago.

Sarah said: “The lab is busy. Last Sunday we tested 200 samples. However, with the Government ramping up testing, we are expecting to see a large increase in the workload.  I’m really pleased to be doing my bit to help fight this virus.”
