Joshua's MSc Building Information Management Master's gave him the support to develop his curiosity in his field
After studying for my BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering at Portsmouth, I want to be at the forefront of my industry, as well as achieve the education requirements for chartership.
I wanted to study in a city that feels like home. Portsmouth is also one of the few universities where my course is professionally accredited.
From joining for my undergraduate, being supported through my placement and now continuing on my Master’s, the University has evolved me into who I am. As a result of studying here, I have achieved a first class undergraduate degree, extra curricular qualifications and overall happiness. I am funding my postgrad study with a University scholarship (£3,000) and government student loan.
The University has taught me that studying isn’t about knowing all the right answers, it is about asking the right questions. Asking questions is your best friend. The lecturers encourage you to see them outside of taught sessions and to ask questions.
My life consists of balancing study, work and societies. I think it is as important to live as it is to learn. Regular work equals more free time. My hobbies are scuba diving, football, rounders, snow sports and training for a marathon.

My goals going forward are to finish my course with distinction, continue onto a graduate scheme, get chartered, have a job where I feel fulfilled, and have a house.
