Welcome to our Postgraduate Virtual Open Evening

Your journey towards a postgraduate degree at Portsmouth starts here.

Book a 1:1 appointment

To book an appointment with the representative for your course or research area of interest, email postgraduate@port.ac.uk and tell us if there are any times between 4.00pm and 7.00pm that do not work for you. Once we've got that, we'll check which times are available, and send you a reply once we've confirmed your time slot.

If you arranged your 1:1 appointment when you booked your Open Evening spot, there's nothing else you need to do – but if you’ve forgotten the time or lost the email confirming your appointment time slot, just email postgraduate@port.ac.uk and we’ll be happy to remind you.

Attending your 1:1 appointment on the night

When it's time to navigate to your 1:1 with your Course Leader or Research  Subject Area Specialist, you'll need to:

  • Log-in to our Virtual Attendee Hub using the details you provided when you booked – you’ll then be emailed a verification code that gets you into the event
  • Once you’re logged in, you’ll see a welcome message, plus a button to ‘Join your 1:1 appointment' – please click that button to get started
  • Next, click 'Confirmed appointments'  in the top right-hand corner of your calendar – here, you'll be presented with the details of your booked appointment
  • Click on the blue link under the heading 'Virtual meeting' and you'll enter the virtual Zoom booth – you might go into a waiting room while we finish talking with the person before you, but we won't keep you waiting very long
  • It’s up to you whether you keep your camera on, we’re comfortable either way – just make sure you remember to turn your mic on so that we can hear you

Troubleshooting

> I’m having problems logging in / I’ve not received my verification code

If you’re having difficulties accessing our Virtual Open Evening, it could be one of the following issues:

  • You’ve entered a different email to the one you used to register for the event
  • Your verification code might have been sent to your junk or spam folder

If you’re still struggling to login, contact postgraduate@port.ac.uk.

> Is there support available if I’m struggling to find my way round the Virtual Attendee Hub?

Yes – just make your way to the ‘Help Desk’ Booth in the Information Hub and we’ll help you find your way around.

> I’m not sure what course / research area I’m interested in – where should I start?

Don't worry if you're still figuring out what you want to study – you can find and chat with representatives from each of our five Faculties in the Information Hub. Start with the Faculty that you think sounds like it best fits your area of interest, and if your subject of interest actually falls under another faculty, they'll pass you to a colleague that can help.

> I want to cancel / amend an appointment

If you want to cancel, or reschedule your 1:1 appointment, email postgraduate@port.ac.uk to let us know, and we'll do this for you.

> How do I join a live session?

All live sessions are accessible from the ‘My Event’ or ‘Live talks’ section, that you’ll see when you login to the Virtual Attendee Hub. Simply navigate to the session you want to join, then click the ‘Join Virtual Session’ button.

If you’re in a session that is accepting questions, select the ‘ask a question button’ to open a text box. You can ask the question anonymously or include your name.

And if you’re viewing the ‘Live Talk’ schedule in advance of the Open Evening, you can ‘add’ sessions to your personal schedule - These will then display in your ‘My Schedule’ section. Please note, all events are GMT time.

> How do I get info about support and professional services?

Our Information Hub – which is easily accessible from the Virtual Attendee Hub – is where you’ll find all the support and professional services, and details around who is available for you to speak with. By clicking on a specific service, you’ll be taken to their Zoom booth.

> My issue isn't listed here

For all other Open Evening queries – particularly if you have a question to ask before the live event starts – please email postgraduate@port.ac.uk.
