Tom rose through the ranks from IT helpdesk member to MD of Portsmouth-based IT company Support on the Spot in just a few years and has helped the business go from strength to strength.

Now in their 12th year, Support on the Spot began by providing IT support to recruitment companies. Whilst they continue to provide this specialist support, they have broadened their customer base as well as their services, which range from IT Support and Helpdesk through to Hosting, Cybersecurity, Disaster Recovery and Consultancy.

“We’ve gone from being a specialist IT Helpdesk Support company through to a full service ISO accredited IT partner. This means that our customers can get all of their IT needs met with one dependable partner which works for both  them and us.”

Investing in the team is at the centre of their philosophy

Tom said: “we aim to keep each member of our team fully trained, with the latest and most up-to-date information regarding products and customer expectations. We support and empower them to go the extra mile for our customers.”

The last year has proved challenging for most businesses, and for Support on the Spot this has meant many of their customers have needed their help and support more than ever.

Flexible office space at the Portsmouth Technopole since 2013

Whilst the pandemic and associated lockdowns have presented challenges to the business, Support on the Spot has appreciated the flexibility of the office space at Innovation Connect's Technopole site.

Tom said: “being able to upgrade to larger offices when we need to and downgrade during lockdown has been invaluable in keeping our staff team strong and our business model efficient during this last difficult year. The flexibility and support provided by the Innovation Connect model has been invaluable to our business.

“We've been based at the Innovation Connect Technopole in Portsmouth since 2013 and have always found it to be a delight to work with the reception team and centre managers, Robin and Sophie, who are professional and supportive. Nothing is too much trouble for them.”
