Most of the Universe is made of a form of matter that does not emit light, with stars and galaxies representing a rather small contribution to the total content. This reality, together with a plethora of other observations, can be accurately described by the current consensus model in cosmology, although a full understanding is yet to be achieved. The work of theorists, observers and simulators has resulted in new knowledge and tools that can also be applied in other fields more down-to-earth, such as epidemiology or other areas of medicine, GPS geolocalisation and more.
