End of contract guidance and support

Explore the what's available to you

Timeline

6-12 Months prior to your project end (depending on project length), it is recommended that you start having discussions with your line manager to discuss any opportunities open to you internally. These discussions should take place at regular intervals leading to the project end. The University internal vacancies can be found on your Employee Self-Service home page.

As part of either the Organisational Change and Redundancy (OCR) policy or end of fixed term contract procedure (for individuals with over 2 years service) you will be invited to attend a meeting with your manager. For those invited to a meeting, you will be told about your redeployee status and the redeployment procedure is explained to you.

The End of Fixed Term Contract Policy outlines the timeline and support available to you as you approach the end of your contract. The policy outlines that ‘timely and active consideration must be given by managers as to whether the contract can continue to be funded or made permanent.’ (Section 5.1). This should be discussed by managers with HR at the earliest opportunity.

Close to the project end date, it is good practice to have a project closure meeting with your line manager.

*NB - As employment contracts and entitlements can vary based on individual circumstances, please contact HR directly (via People Hub on Hornbill) to request the most relevant and up-to-date advice.
