Doctor of the University

An expert in HR and former Chair of the Board of the University of Portsmouth. 

After graduating from London University in 1974 with a degree in English, Jane studied for a postgraduate qualification in Personnel Management from Middlesex University. She then began a career in Human Resources, working mainly in the public sector. 

Her final role was as Human Resources Director for the Local Government Association, a national membership organisation for local authorities, which works to support, improve and promote local government. Today, Jane is a freelance HR consultant.

Jane joined the Board of the University of Portsmouth in September 2013. She was elected Deputy Chair in 2014 before serving as the Chair of the Board from 2017 until July 2021. Jane was nominated by the Committee of University Chairs to serve on the national Board of the Universities and College Employers Association from 2019 to 2021.

In her leisure time, Jane’s passion has always been singing. She is a regular member of Boxgrove Priory church choir and a member of local singing groups Wyndcliffe Voices and Portsmouth Baroque Choir. In a voluntary capacity, she undertakes the administration for the Cantores Vagantes choir, a visiting choir for cathedrals across England and Wales.
