Typical offers

  • Relevant HE study leading to a Level 5 qualification, for example an appropriate HND, foundation degree or Advanced Diploma, or 240 credits from year 1 and year 2 of an undergraduate degree (BEng/BSc), in a relevant subject.

  • English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.0 with no component score below 5.5.

On this top-up course, you'll study modules worth 120 credits.

What you'll study

Core modules

You'll study distributed databases, complex query formulation, transaction control, data visualization, and emerging technologies like NoSQL. You'll also prepare for business applications, scalability and architectures such as web, mobile, and distributed databases.

In this module, you'll get hands-on experience in building networks and algorithms so that you're equipped with the skills to develop AI systems and understand both AI's potential and limitations.

In this module, you'll critically review research literature; both academic and industry works to demonstrate an understanding of the professionalism and ethical conduct needed in research designs.

In this module, you'll design, model and implement cloud data warehouses to empower decision-making. As you gain experience with predictive mining tools like regression, neural networks and clustering, you'll also learn to communicate clearly with data owners, learning how to present visualisations of your results or to describe the information that different mining techniques could deliver.

Optional modules

You'll model and query cloud data warehouses, identify statistical outliers and patterns, and develop visually engaging reports that provide management recommendations.

You'll work in a team to analyse the issues, engage closely with the client to match your understanding to their needs, and bring your fresh insights to their problem. By the end, you'll have a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to propose to your client, and demonstrable evidence of using team-based approaches to complex industry issues.

In this future-focused module, you'll look at the effects of innovative technology in enterprise, the contexts in which advances are created, and frameworks for understanding future developments. You'll also prepare for your early career development as you appraise the current IT employment landscape.

You'll examine security devices and systems, and high-profile breaches, to understand the constantly evolving threat landscape and its far-reaching impacts. Upon completion, you'll be set to evaluate and recommend security systems to future-proof organizations against emerging cyber-attacks.

In this industry-focused module, you'll evaluate multiple project management methods, their application to IT projects, and associated soft skills - from communication and risk planning to team leadership. You'll cover concepts, tools and techniques employed across the project management lifecycle.

You'll identify risks from emerging technologies, assess impacts of data breaches, and evaluate technical and human safeguards. You'll develop expertise in cloud security, mobile devices, access controls and more. You'll craft incident response plans that mitigate insider threats, hacking, malware and physical attacks. And you'll get real-world skills to protect infrastructure through layered security deployments.

Course costs and funding

How we set our tuition fees

Fees for full-time and part-time undergraduate students from the UK and Channel Islands may increase each year, subject to conditions set by the UK or Channel Islands governments.

Fees for new international and EU undergraduate and postgraduate students (both full-time and part-time) will increase each year, based on factors such as inflation. For continuing students, fees will not increase by more than 5% per year.

  • UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man students – £9,790 a year (may be subject to annual increase)
  • EU students – £10,300 a year (including EU Scholarship – may be subject to annual increase)
  • International students – £16,200 a year (subject to annual increase)
