Find the right job for you at one of the top universities in the UK

Whether you're looking for an academic role in your area of expertise or a professional position behind the scenes, your search starts here.

Search our list of current vacancies, and find out more about how to apply below.

Finding a vacancy

On our job search page you'll find 2 types of vacancies – external and internal.

If you're not a current University of Portsmouth employee, look for a role among our external vacancies. If you're a current member of staff, internal vacancies are for you.

Please note, if you try to apply for the wrong type of vacancy, your application will be automatically rejected – so make sure you're searching in the right section before you start your application.

You can refine the terms of your search – from the department you want to work in, to your expected pay grade or working hours – using the menu on the left-hand side of the vacancies search page.

We're adding new job adverts all the time, so it's worth visiting job search pages regularly. Or you can sign up to receive vacancy alerts that match your criteria, so you'll never miss a new job posting.

Look for the 'vacancy alert' icon at the bottom of the page, where you can specify the type of roles you'd like to hear about.

We are at an exciting stage in our development, having just defined a new vision that maps out our ambitions as a leading UK university. Naturally, we need talented people who can help us realise those ambitions.

Starting your application

To apply for a role, register your details on our job search pages.

Signing up is quick and simple, and your details will only be seen by the HR team and the line manager responsible for the vacancy you've applied for.

By creating an account, you'll be able to search and apply for vacancies without having to enter your details each time you visit. We'll also save your previous searches so you can access them quickly.

Most importantly, your account gives you the flexibility to start and save your application, and return to it whenever you like. That means you can complete it section-by-section, rather than all at once.

You'll also be able to manage your applications, monitor their progress after the vacancy has closed, and print a paper copy of what you've submitted.

What comes next?

Once you've submitted your application you'll receive a confirmation email right away. In most cases, you'll get an update on the success of your application approximately 2 weeks after the vacancy has closed.

Senior vacancies

Senior roles within the University – Faculty Dean, Head of School or Head of Service – will be advertised on our senior vacancies page. Accessible candidate packs, containing all the information you'll need to apply, are available to download.
