Get a new website built for your small business

Students scope, build and hand it over. Free, January to April.

At a glance

Who it's for

Small businesses that need a new website or a replacement for an old one.

Cost

Free.

Timescales

Projects start in January and take around three months. You’ll have your site by April.

Best suited to

A straightforward site, where you can supply the content and be available weekly.

What's involved

Students from our Electronic and Mobile Commerce module work with you to understand your business and your brand, then design and build a simple website and hand it over to you.

You’ll end up with:

  • A professionally designed website at no cost
  • A site benchmarked against at least two of your competitors
  • A site map and wireframes agreed with you before anything is built
  • A tested site, presented to you with a chance to request changes
  • Full handover at the end of the module

How it works

1. Understand your business

The team builds a picture of your business, brand and requirements.

2. Benchmark and plan

They compare your site against at least two competitors, then develop a site map and wireframes for each page.

3. Build and test

The team builds the site and tests it.

4. Presentation

They present the finished site to you, and you can request changes.

5. Handover

The website is handed over to you at the end of the module, in April.

Case study

I am incredibly pleased with the new website. It looks really slick, tidy and professional. I strongly recommend this opportunity for SMEs.”

Before you enquire

These projects run once a year, starting in January. If you need a site sooner than April, this isn’t the right route.

You’ll need to supply the words. Clients consistently find this takes longer than they expect, and the sites that work best are the ones where the business kept up with it.

Expect a regular check-in, usually weekly. Students are working to a module deadline and can’t wait long for decisions.

This is a simple site. If you need e-commerce, complex integrations or ongoing maintenance, we’ll say so and point you elsewhere.
