Plus, Portsmouth is in the top 10 most affordable places to live as a student in the UK (Natwest Student Living Index 2019) – so you'll have a place to call your own in a modern city that won't break the bank.

How to apply for halls
UK and EU students
If you’ve firmly accepted a full-time place with us, we’ll send you an accommodation pack from the end of January which includes full accommodation details – including deadlines, a student housing guide and our allocation policy.
We'll send you details of how to apply for a room in halls and deadline dates when you firmly accept an unconditional or conditional offer with the University.
All new international students (non-EU and non-exchange) starting a full-time course in 2020 are guaranteed an offer of a place in a hall of residence for the first year of study, provided we have received a completed accommodation application by the accommodation deadline.
Accommodation for semester exchanges and study abroad
Joining us in September?
If you’re a new student starting at Portsmouth in the first semester of the academic year, you can secure a guaranteed room in halls of residence.
All you need to do is meet our accommodation deadlines. So, make sure you apply early.
As an exchange student, you can apply for accommodation as soon as we’ve sent your official acceptance email.
If you miss our deadlines or prefer not to live in halls, there’s lots of private rented accommodation available in the city to suit a variety of budgets.
Joining us in January?
If your exchange starts in January, you can apply for accommodation during our autumn term. There’s a good chance we can offer you a place in halls, but this depends on availability.
If you don’t get a place in halls, it’s usually easy to find private rented accommodation in the city. We can support you to find a suitable place – whether in a shared student house, lodgings or a private hall.
Our Student Housing Officer can give you the latest information on housing options and help you link up with other students arriving in January.
