Find out how to best support young people with post-16 pathways, routes to getting a degree and more
For young people living without parental support due to care experience or estrangement, entering higher education may feel slightly daunting.
But we know that as a supporter, you want to help them navigate through their education options. And ensure they receive all the support they're entitled to – from funding to wellbeing, designated advisers and study support.
If you work with young people that have care experience or may be estranged from their parents, then our online information event is for you.
Book your place now, and choose from themed sessions across varying times to suit your schedule.
What's coming up at the Information Event?
Monday 16 May 2022
Colleagues from the Southern Universities Network (SUN) will take us through the various routes to achieving a degree. This will include information on typical undergraduate degree routes, as well as placement opportunities within a degree and Degree Apprenticeships.
In this session we will be taking a look at the different qualification types available to students at the various stages of their education. We will be looking at the structure of different qualifications and the learning styles that may be best suited to the options available.
We know that the UCAS process can be a little overwhelming for supporters, particularly if you haven't helped anyone through it for a while and things have been updated. In this session we'll be walking you through the process of applying to university, including tips for attending open days and key points in the process for students to access extra support.
Tuesday 17 May 2022
Focusing on key topic areas they feel are most important when supporting young people with similar lived experiences, current university students will be sharing their experiences of living without parental support. They will also be taking questions from attendees.
In this session we'll be taking a look not only at the financial support available to care experienced and estranged students, but the wider support packages on offer too. We will take a look at housing, wellbeing and personal advisor support too.
