Explore Creative Technologies at our Taster Day
Digital and Creative Technologies are rapidly transforming how we engage and interact with the world. And the possibilities are endless.
Join us for our Taster Days on 18 January 2024, and 12 June 2024, where your students can get hands-on with virtual reality, try their hand at visual effects, and explore the art of thinking outside of the box.
You'll also be able to tour Centre for Creative and Immersive Extended Reality, the UK’s first integrated facility that brings together a full suite of the latest XR technologies under one roof, to get a sense of the vast range options available to your students.
Whether their passions lie in video production, animation, web design, mobile gaming, or the cutting-edge realms of virtual reality (VR) and extended reality (XR), their journey of discovery begins right here at Portsmouth.

your students will:

Explore 5 dynamic sessions to see Digital and Creative Technologies in action, with practical sessions on coding and music-making

- Chat to current students about life as a student at Portsmouth and the creative courses they study
- Gain hands-on experience that they can talk about on their UCAS personal statement

Location and meeting point
Check in opens at 9.00am at Eldon Building, Southsea, Portsmouth, PO1 2DJ. Look out for our students in purple T-shirts who'll help direct you.

Here's what's coming at our Digital and Creative Technologies Taster Day.*
Check in from 9.00am Eldon Building, Southsea, Portsmouth, PO1 2DJ and get ready to learn about studying for a Creative degree at university.

Your students will learn how degrees at Portsmouth will combine artistic flair with technical elements to become the culturally powerful and future-facing area that is Creative Technologies
Virtual Production, or in-camera visual effects (VFX), is being heralded as the new way of filmmaking. It combines physical and virtual filmmaking practices to create content for film and television. Virtual techniques include augmented/virtual/mixed reality, computer-generated imagery (CGI), game engines, motion capture, VFX and more. This session will introduce the area with live examples.

Students will attend any 1 of these sessions during this particular timeslot, and will experience all 5 sessions over the course of the day.
It's time for your class to take a quick breather, consolidate their learning so far and get in a stretch before moving on to more exciting sessions.
Human Experience Design is the process of designing software and hardware tools for specific users and use cases. This session will introduce the area, giving students insight into how designers lead the development of new digital tools and workflows for the creative industries.

- Creative coding: making a music performance tool for the web
- Music production: mixing a track on the Neve Genesys
Students will attend any 1 of these sessions during this particular timeslot, and will experience all 5 sessions over the course of the day.
The web is capable of being a platform for music creation as well as consumption; a browser is becoming an important tool for both music producers and musicians. This session will focus on creative coding - writing code as a creative tool - while students develop a tool for music making for the web. No programming knowledge or experience is required.

Students will attend any 1 of these sessions during this particular timeslot, and will experience all 5 sessions over the course of the day.
Your students will stop for a well-earned break in our Eldon Building where students from different courses and departments share the space in this creative hub.
Your class will unlock the secrets behind crafting captivating media content - from video and web design to motion graphics and animation; this session will delve into developing hand-drawn animation and Web UI prototyping using Adobe Animate. If that wasn't enough, our experienced students will be on hand to talk through their time on degree courses and the career paths possible in the creative and digital industry.

Students will attend any 1 of these sessions during this particular timeslot, and will experience all 5 sessions over the course of the day.
Dive into the world of professional audio with this hands-on introduction to the Neve Genesys, a cutting-edge audio console that blends analogue audio with digital control. Your students will see what it takes to mix a track using the latest hardware and software.

Students will attend any 1 of these sessions during this particular timeslot, and will experience all 5 sessions over the course of the day.
The floor is open for you and your students to ask questions. You'll have the attention of lecturers and current students to pick their brains about different creative courses, the transition from college to Uni and moving away from home - or whatever else they want to know about uni.
