Accessing Databases

Explore the global financial databases that our staff and students access

Our Faculty of Business and Law offers students and staff access to financial databases on companies and markets found in the UK and around the globe.

These databases provide real-time and historical data for use in seminars, research, courses and papers, and give students opportunities to expand their resume with accreditation and certificates.

Databases

We hold subscriptions to databases that cover a variety of areas. Depending on the course they're studying or the area in which they work, our students and staff can access them through our subscriptions.

Bloomberg

Students can use the the Bloomberg electronic trading platform in our Faculty of Business & Law's Bloomberg Suite.

The Bloomberg database is a leading global financial markets database that provides real-time news and data on:

  • Company accounts and ratios
  • Analysts reports and recommendations
  • Company and financial news
  • Stock prices
  • Equity indices
  • Bonds
  • Commodities
  • Environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings
  • Corporate governance

Access

As well as the Bloomberg Suite, there are 2 PCs in the Library with Bloomberg access that are available during extended opening times.

S&P Capital IQ

S&P Capital IQ offers global company information, credit ratings and market research with tools for risk assessments.

It provides access to current and historical data on companies, markets, transactions and people worldwide, including:

  • Financial information
  • Equity and fixed income securities
  • Credit ratings
  • Corporate actions such as investments, M&As, bankruptcies and other filings
  • Person details (such as biography, age and education)
  • Company ownership
  • Project screening
  • News streaming and archives, including company filings, such as Annual Reports and SEC filings

S&P Capital IQ is linked to the Market Intelligence Platform which focuses on the coverage of the Financial Services and Insurance industries. Information provided by both databases can be connected.

Access

S&P Capital IQ can be accessed online at any time, but requires registration. Data can be accessed though S&P's online interactive platform or through the Excel plug-In.

EIKON

EIKON offers economic, company and financial information, news, analytics and market insights on a range of platforms.

It offers access to information including:

  • Various asset classes, including equities, fixed income, currency, commodities
  • Investor briefs
  • ESG ratings
  • Corporate governance
  • News streaming and archives, including company filings, such as Annual Reports and SEC filings

Access

You can access EIKON through 2 PCs in the library and 1 in the Richmond Building. Staff can access EIKON via AppsAnywhere.

Registering for a database

Once you've joined the University as a student we'll give you all the help you need to register with the database you need, and direct you towards training tools to can help you use them more effectively.
